How to use the easy grader

  1. Enter the total number of questions or possible points.
  2. Enter the number wrong, number correct, or points earned.
  3. Read the percentage and optional letter grade. Use “Next paper” to keep your total and scale while grading another paper.

How the grading calculation works

Grade percentage = earned points ÷ possible points × 100. For equally weighted questions, subtract the number wrong from the total to find the number correct.

For example, 3 wrong on a 20-question quiz means 17 correct: 17 ÷ 20 × 100 = 85%. That is a B on the example scale, but your school may use different thresholds.

Choose the right grading method

Question mode assumes every question has equal value. If a test includes different point values or partial credit, choose points mode and enter the total points earned. For several course categories with different weights, use the weighted grade calculator.

Grading scale and rounding

The starting example is A: 90% and above; B: 80% to below 90%; C: 70% to below 80%; D: 60% to below 70%; F: below 60%. This is an example, not a universal standard. You can edit all four thresholds or hide letter grades.

By default, an unrounded 89.5% is a B. If you choose whole-number rounding for letters, it becomes 90% and receives an A on that scale. Changing display precision alone should not change a grade. Read more about grading scales and our calculation methodology.

Frequently asked questions

Is this an EZ grading calculator?

Yes. It performs the same basic task as an easy grader: converting a question total and a count of wrong answers into a percentage. This is an independent tool.

Can I enter half credit?

Yes. Use a 0.5 question equivalent when questions have equal value, or use points mode for precise partial-credit totals.

Why is my teacher’s letter grade different?

Your teacher may use different thresholds, a plus/minus scale, a curve, or a different rounding policy. The percentage calculation and the letter conversion are separate steps.

Can I calculate the score I need on a final?

Use the final grade calculator with your current course grade, final exam weight, and target grade.
